The Big 5

Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhino - the 'Big 5'.

We were lucky to see them all within the first 48 hours of our arrival at Kruger Park. Five White Rhinos welcomed us upon arrival just a couple of kilometres after the Malelane Gate. In fact two of them blocked the road right in front of us.

The next morning, during the morning game drive, we spotted a buffalo hiding under a bush and a few female lions from the distance. Close to the end of this first tour, we saw two young male lions lying in the deep grass next to the dirt road near the Berg-en-dal camp.

Driving ourselves in the afternoon, we encountered a group of about 20 elephants. Again, they were very close to us. Four down.

The day after we stopped on the main tar road because there were 2 or 3 vehicles already parked there. A few minutes of watching the grass until a Leopard gets up and walks majestically along. - Even better, the next morning we find another Leopard sitting next to the road.
